Samsung to sell tablets, make all monitors LED by H2 2010

By Chris Nicholls

SYDNEY, NSW: South Korea’s largest PC maker is preparing an onslaught of new product in the new year, with tablet PCs, more 3D and all monitors LED backlit by the end of 2010.

Talking to Current.com.au, Samsung Australia IT product marketing manager, Emmanuele Silanesu, said irrespective of whether a tablet could be either a slate-type device akin to the mythical Apple tablet, or a traditional model with a keyboard, “We will have those products in the future or coming into next year”.

Samsung is also planning multitouch monitors and notebooks, as well as more 3D, he said.

“I don’t know if they’re more evolution than revolution, but certainly Q1 will have touch, not only in notebooks but also in monitors.” The touchscreen monitors will likely be CCFL backlit to start, but Silanesu said they, along with the rest of the lineup, will be LED before long.

“I’m pretty sure that coming into the middle to the end of next year, LED will be the norm across the range,” he said.

In the 3D space, Silanesu hinted that nVidia was working on technology to convert 2D content to 3D.

“I can’t say too much more on this but I believe developments are underway and it may be announced in the new year.”
