SYDNEY: Telstra cordless phones distributor, Ingram Micro, has announced a national recall of two AC power adaptors shipped with Telstra phones sold after July 1 last year due to faulty casing which could expose users to internal circuitry.
The affected AC adaptors were packaged with the Telstra Easytouch series, Telstra F5100 SMS, Telstra F5150 SMS and Telstra Edge series models, and are marked with a TE number of either TE0606 or TE0706 on the adaptor.
According to Ingram Micro managing director, Guy Freeland, some products have a plastic moulding defect in the casing of their AC power adaptor, which could cause the casing of the AC power adaptor to separate and potentially expose the internal circuitry.
“A couple of weeks ago we had a few AC adaptors returned to our warranty centre. We replaced them and realised they had common batch numbers,” Freeland said.
“There have been no reports of damage or injury, and the number of units returned is very small – under 10 – but it is still important that we offer replacements to everyone who bought one of these models.
“Yes, it will be a costly exercise, but we will pay what it takes.”
According to Freeland, Ingram Micro will be advertising from tomorrow in 28 print publications across Australia, including major newspapers and consumer electronics magazines.
“We’ve set up a link on our website that affected consumers can visit, as well as a call centre,” said Freeland.
Consumers are advised to switch off the power at the power point and disconnect the AC power adaptor to check the TE number.
Consumers with an affected adaptor should cease using it and either register their details at www.imtechlink.com.au/recall or phone the recall support number 1300 658 053 in between 8am and 5pm on a working day.
“It was a manufacturing fault,” said Freeland.
“It won’t happen again – we have redesigned the plug packs now and strengthened them.”
