No sex please, we're after a plasma

By Chris Nicholls

BRITAIN, UK: A survey of 2000 Britons by UK electrical retailer Comet has revealed almost 50 per cent of men would consider giving up sex for six months to get a 50-inch plasma.

According to the survey, 47 per cent of males would be willing to take a vow of celibacy for six months if it meant getting a 50-inch plasma TV afterwards.

Only 35 per cent of women said they would be willing to take the same vow for a plasma.

Just under a quarter (24 per cent) of respondents said they would be willing to give up smoking, while 25 per cent would also stop eating chocolate if it meant a shiny new TV.

Despite being a nation of football lovers, 17 per cent of men said they would even be willing to give up watching the world game if it meant a plasma TV in their living room. This despite the fact many flat panel sales are before major sporting events.

Bob Darke, Comet’s commercial director said he was surprised by the results.

“We are surprised to see just how much the nation would be willing to give up for a 50-inch plasma TV. But we have seen a massive 7,000 per cent uplift in sales of 50-inch TVs in the last two years. With more and more people aspiring to celebrity lifestyles, having an impressive entertainment system is becoming top-of-the-list for homeowners.”
