SYDNEY: Thomson Telecom has followed Ingram Micro in recalling a faulty power adaptor for one of its Telstra phones, but this time the recall does not affect electrical retailers as the phone was supplied exclusively to Telstra stores as part of a promotion.
Thomson’s recalled AC power adaptor is the same model as that supplied to Ingram Micro for a number of its Telstra cordless phones from the middle of last year.
A fault with the adaptor’s casing forced Ingram Micro to recall its Telstra Easytouch series, Telstra F5100 SMS, Telstra F5150 SMS and Telstra Edge series models after fears that consumers could be exposed to live wires if the casing failed.
Thomson has expressed similar concerns stating that “hazards may include the breaking of the plastic casing of the power supply unit and the exposure to direct electrical current”.
However, electrical retailers selling phones distributed by Thomson Telecom Australia should not be concerned about the recall as it applies to a non-retail Telstra model.
“The phones and power supply unit are distributed directly to Telstra who in turn supply consumers directly. The product was distributed to consumers after 1 July, 2006,” said Thomson in a statement to the Product Safety Section of the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission.
Thomson Telecom could not comment further on the recall when contacted this afternoon but has confirmed it will contact consumers directly by mail.
The affected model has the product number S6.5VDC 150/9VAC150/1B.
