BSH Home Appliances has today announced the recall of around 63,000 Bosch dishwashers manufactured between 2000 and 2006.

This recall does not require the dishwasher to be returned to the manufacturer; all that is needed is for a service technician to visit the home of affected units to replace a part in the dishwasher.

This repair will take approximated 45 minutes and can be arranged with seven working days of a consumer making contact with BSH Home Appliances via its dedicated hotline: 1300 369 744.

“Reflecting its commitment to safety and quality, BSH Group's global quality and control processes have identified that some affected model dishwashers may potentially develop cracks in the printed circuit board within the control module,” said BSH Home Appliances.

“Depending upon individual operating circumstances, these cracks could potentially lead to melting of soldering material or, in an unlikely event, ignition of a fire in the dishwasher.”

BSH Home Appliances has identified 15 reported instances in Australia and is currently investigating two more failure reports.

“Not all instances involved the ignition of a fire in the dishwasher. Further, no injuries have been reported.”

Affected users are advised to cease using their dishwasher immediately and to unplug the appliance from the wall socket.

The following 20 models are affected:

SGI4335AU, SGI4345AU, SGI4347AU, SGI43A25AU, SGI43A45AU, SGI43A55AU, SGI4705AU, SGI4715AU, SGI53A55AU, SGS4332AU, SGS4352AU, SGS43A92AU, SGS43B22AU, SGS43B42AU, SGS4702AU, SGS4712AU, SGS5332AU, SGS53A52AU, SRI43A05AU, and SRS5302AU.

Users can identify their model number by using the following guide:

“BSH believes that the product issue only occurs while an affected model dishwasher is in use and only during the relatively short phase in the operating cycle when water is being heated to the required temperature.

“It also appears that unpredictable fluctuations in the Australian domestic power supply is a contributing factor.”

“The safety of consumers is our highest priority,” said BSH managing director Volker Thaens. “That is why we are conducting this repair action for affected model dishwashers even though they have been operating successfully in Australian homes for the last 6-to-12 years.”

BSH Home Appliances dedicated hotline — 1300 369 744 — is operating Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. There is also dedicated website: bosch-home.com.au/repair.

Regarding the recall for Bosch dishwashers- I have a Bosch dishwasher its RD number is 8303. Serial number is SGS4072AU/36 I know it is not one that has been recalled but I would like you to know what has happened to my dishwasher. My dishwasher is not used very much but on using it at the beginning of this year, there was a loud bang and this resulted in smoke coming from the dishwasher, as of yet I have not had anybody to look at it but I feel this might be another model that has a fault in it. If there is a chance you would be able to send someone to look at this I would appreciate it. regards chris

Model SGI 4345AU Note my dishwasher electric modules caught fire in Feb 2012. I phone Bosch customer service who recommended an approved technician. On inspection due to the damage it was not reparable. I have subsequently bought a new Bosch . Please advise my options as my dishwasher is one that was affected by faulty module. Thanks

We have been through the list of recalled models, and we are just triple checking that our dishwasher being SGS53E7AU/86 - 000423 - FD 8805 SGS5E72Au is not affected whatsoever? My sister was burnt in a house fire by a vulcan heater 10 years ago,k that had been recalled, and repaired. I am nervous of products being recalled, just triple checking in this case, our model is still safe and sound to continue using with confidence and safety? Thanking you Debbie & Ian Green

We have one of the affected dishwashers. We reported it straight away, have followed Bosch up and still haven't had a response. We haven't been able to use our dishwasher for nearly a month (which has been very annoying over Christmas time). What is the hold up? Bosch say they will deal with it within 7 working days! It is not acceptable!

We put in the original application. We received a confirmation email in which you said you will contact us in 48 hours. We haven't heard from you so followed you up by email which we haven't had a response. Requested assistance on this site and now you want me to contact you through another form of social media. Why can't you deal with this here? It's not acceptable.

Regarding the recall - tried to call (long delays) so went on line to register, confirmed our dishwasher was affected - tried to book a service call on line filling out our all my details - "YOUR system should take a mobile number" (not just a land line number) had to go back in a refill the info using my husbands details and his work phone number - lets hope we get contacted soon as noted

Reference 500376. Well it's now over a month since you registered my details for my dishwasher recall and still no one has been in touch. Your telephone numbers remain unanswered and there is no response to emails. Don't refer me to your twitter account ... I don't have one. This is beyond a joke. How seriously do you take this recall? How am I meant to resolve this so that I can start using my dishwasher again. Thanks for all the hand washing over Christmas!

Regarding the recall - Gave up waiting on the 1300 number, ended up registering on line - confirmed our dishwasher was affected - filled out the service call details - Your site should allow for a MOBILE phone contact number (not just a home land line) I had to refill the info using my husbands details and his work land line - lets hope we hear back from Bosch soon

Amy We have had our dishwasher "repaired" under the recall. The job number allocated was 2400048. However now there is no heat to any of the machine cycles so it does not wash effectively. This was not the case before the "repair". So far I have rung the 1300 recall number to report the complaint only to be advised that I have to call the 1300 repair number. I've tried calling the Bosch repair 1300 number for several hours without success. For example this morning I have been on the phone since the service opened for one hour and twenty minutes without success. This is a very poor system that Bosch has installed to handle all these requests. I do not want to sign up for Twitter to be able to send you a tweet so what other options are left to me to get some action on having my dishwasher repaired to its full operational capacity. your distressed client Keith

The fire problem is not related to only these models. My dishwasher caught on fire two nights ago. It's model # is SHU4305uc/14. FD8308 06452. This incident was frightning and we are lucky we were able to extinguish the fire. Bosch customer service has been of no help. I have purchased multiple kitchen sets from Bosch in the past (I flip houses). I will never buy Bosch products again. I send an arerage of $10,000 on their products. It blows my mind that they wouldn't show any interest over loosing this much business. This company does not care about me or you. Please do not buy their products.

I have an affected dishwasher SGS4332AU. REF:501404 I have emailed twice and phoned once. Even allowing for the floods here in Queensland, the customer service is just ordinary. I don't Twitter and have no intention to start just for this. The company should be following up with us, we shouldn't have to chase the company, and get nowhere. It could be handled so much better.

My dishwasher is in the recall. I had to submit details twice on the website, then once by phone, all in the first week of Dec 12. Despite phone calls, emails, lots of promises, nothing at all has happened in eleven weeks. Every contact has been initiated by me, not once from the supplier. It's always "tomorrow" or "next week" followed by silence. What a con job. What a fire risk. You'd buy Bosch again, wouldn't you?

My dishwasher is on the recall. Lodged on line. waited over 5 weeks, no reply. Lodged on phone, still another 4 weeks. Do not have a twitter or facebook account and do not intend to get one. What to do, fed up with hand washing. Already has caught fire once, and caught in time not to burn house down. Where is the service?

I have had 2 Bosch dishwashers and have completed and returned the warranty information on both appliances. Today watching the ITN news is first i have heard of any problems with the appliances. I have looked for the serial number and my dishwasher has no visible sticker so i cant check for myself

My dishwasher is on the recall list, an engineer came to my home in 2011. When he came I informed him that I had had a lot of trouble with it, and that an engineer had been called out twice and it still kept cutting out. He said in that case he was not touching it and left without even looking at it This is the standard of customer care offered

Hi Amy - sorry for the slow reply. I don't use twitter, is there another way of contacting you? Thanks
Posted by David. 18/03/2013 09:30:43 PM
we are renting and our dishwasher has stopped working 3 times in the past year we have been in the house. 2 of those times there was a smell like burning plastic throughout the house from it. glad it didn't catch fire. We have currently been waiting 4 weeks for it to get fixed. Repairer showed us the circuit board fried when he came to look at it 2 weeks ago.
Posted by robert. 22/03/2013 09:23:51 PM
7 weeks tomorrow, still waiting on bosch.......
Posted by robert. 11/04/2013 02:20:41 PM
Our Bosch must have been one of the 'rare' ones to catch fire - fire dept called in, very scary. Bosch have since replaced the fried part but we had already replaced the dishwasher. I'm not impressed as I'm close a grand out of pocket. When our evaporative cooler was recalled that manufacturer did the right thing and contacted us. Bosch could have done the same and saved us the money and what could have been a catastrophic house had we been sleeping.

Our Bosch dishwasher just caught fire, we managed to put it out but what would happen if nobody was home or we were sleeping? An unlikely event you say?! We would've loose a house or worse! Would Bosch cover for our loss?? We had this dishwasher for almost 10 years, many times left on when we weren't home..why Bosch did not contact us directly to rectify this problem,I stumbled on this article by pure accident looking for repairer to fix my burnt dishwasher..I wonder how long will I wait, without dishwasher, for repair?
Posted by JACK. 26/05/2013 08:58:04 PM
I registered for repair 11 days ago and received an email advising someone would contact me within 2-3 business days and providing reference number: 502732. That did not happen. I followed up with another email 3 days ago when my machine died. Still no contact! Reading the posts on this site does not give me much confidence that Bosch is taking its obligations seriously. Is someone going to call me?
