Sony Australia is currently being sued in the Federal Court of Australia (NSW) by one of its authorised customer service centres, Digital Domain SA, for “mislead or deceptive conduct”.

The first documents in this case were filed on Thursday 22 November 2012. First directions by presiding officer Justice Flick are scheduled for Monday 10 December 2012.

According to its website, Digital Domain is a longstanding authorised Sony service centre.

“Digital Domain has been a Specialist Sony Service Centre in South Australia for the last 14 years,” the company says. “We are proud to have Sony recommend Digital Domain for servicing their products.”

“Our Sony Repair Adelaide technicians at Digital Domain are experienced service providers for Sony Products, so you can be confident you will be dealing with an experienced and reliable local Adelaide based repairer.

“Our qualified and experienced Sony repairers use only approved components for your Sony products.

“Our aim at Sony Repairs Adelaide is to provide you the very best Sony Service and Repairs work at the most competitive price.”

Digital Domain specialises in repairs of Sony VCRs, digital cameras, TVs, notebooks and mobile phones.

It is unknown if there is any link between this court case and Sony Australia’s decision to outsource its after sales service.

In a Current.com.au exclusive from January 2012, a Sony Australia spokesperson confirmed that InfoTeam Oceania would be taking over the service and support for its electronics division.

“From 1 April 2012, Sony Australia will be delivering service and support to consumer AV/IT customers via a nationally centralised service partner, InfoTeam Oceania,” said a Sony Australia spokesperson.

“This company will leverage its extensive Sony knowledge and experience to provide new levels of service for our consumer AV/IT products.

“By managing our customers from a central base, Sony believes it will be able to provide customers with the most direct and effective service.

“No matter where our customers live or how they want to deal with us, we will be able to offer them the support they need in a prompt and consistent way.”
