The Sony Foundation held its annual Wharf4Ward fundraiser at Woolloomooloo Wharf in Sydney yesterday, with the charitable foundation raising more than half a million dollars for youth cancer research and support.

A number of local TV personalities, celebrities and industry heavyweights were there, including faces from TV’s X Factor, and the equally important faces from retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman.

Hosted by Channel 9’s Peter Overton and a number of presenters from all the major commercial TV networks, the event showcased entertainment from guests including Timomatic, Justice Crew and Jessica Mauboy, with heartfelt appearances from young cancer survivors and Paralympic gold medallist Chris Bond.

The capacity crowd of 850 helped to raise a total of $520,000 for You Can – the youth cancer awareness charity set up by the Sony Foundation – by bidding on silent auction items and entering a number of raffles for Sony prizes. The head honchos from a number of companies were also called on to pledge funds on the day.
