After WOW Sight & Sound went into administration and the brand was sold to new “bronze presidential” owners, the long awaited, pure-play “online superstore” has finally launched.

Utilising the same name, URL and branding as the old company (which operated 15 bricks and mortar stores as well as an online store) the new WOW site features a range including gaming consoles and games, as well as movies and TV series on Blu-ray and DVD.

The site also features links to its (somewhat quiet) Facebook page, the promise of weekly competitions and information on the newly revamped company and “Australia’s Most Exciting Online Entertainment Superstore!” as it is billed. The website’s “Who is WOW” page also provides an interesting – albeit eclectic – list of facts on the company.

“Since 2003 WOW Sight & Sound had grown from a single Queensland store to 15 great locations throughout Australia,” the page reads. “In 2008, WOW launched their online store 1wow.com.au. WOW Sight & Sound have for years been affiliated with the Brisbane Broncos, where they were a principal sponsor for many years.

“When the former owners went into administration on 27th February 2012, the bricks and mortar stores in Australia closed, and in May 2012, the website 1wow.com.au was sold to G & M Direct 2 U Pty Ltd. 1WOW.com.au is Australia's Most Exciting Online Entertainment Superstore!”

Although WOW is no longer an official sponsor of the Brisbane Broncos NRL team, the company once again mentions the team on its “Sponsors” page, inviting companies that would like to be ‘considered’ for sponsorship by WOW to contact customer service. This information is listed under a large Broncos-branded banner, although it is unclear if the company has rights to use this imagery.

The company promises “over 20,000 products” on its site, next day dispatch on 95 per cent of its orders, and supplier relationships that ensure cheap prices.
