Big W has issued a recall of one of its house brand products – the Abode 3 Litre Stainless Steel Deep Fryer – due to a potential safety hazard.

The Deep Fryer can be identified by the Abode branding on the unit and the model number DF30BW, which is found on a sticker on the rear of the control unit. The product was sold nationally in Big W stores between August 2011 and July 2012.

“Big W is recalling this product due to a potential safety hazard where the side handles may detach when the deep fryer is lifted,” the retailer said in a statement to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The product has the potential to cause “oil spills and possible burn injuries if the appliance is moved while containing hot oil”.

Customers are advised to immediately return the product to any Big W store for a full refund, or to call the Big W toll-free customer service number on 1300 244 999. The retailer noted that no other products in the Abode range had been affected.
