Fisher & Paykel has issued a recall on selected models from its DishDrawer dishwasher range, due to the potential for the products to cause a mild electric shock.

According to a notice issued on the ACCC website, the recall affects single and double drawer dishwashers with model numbers DS603 and DD603, and serial numbers starting with the letters B, C, D, E, L, M, R, or U. The products were sold nationally between 1 August 2000 and 31 December 2007.

“In rare circumstances, foreign matter such as broken glass or crockery may create an internal water leak,” the recall notice read. “This has the potential to conduct a very low electric current to any water remaining in the dishwasher. The consumer may experience a mild electric shock from water remaining in the machine.”

While the recall noted that a mild electric shock was the “maximum potential hazard” that users may experience, consumers are still being directed to Fisher & Paykel to resolve the issue.

“Consumers should contact Fisher & Paykel Appliances...to register the model number, the serial number and their contact details. If it is the model and serial number affected by this potential problem, Fisher & Paykel will offer the consumer the opportunity to have the problem resolved at no cost.”

“The consumer can continue to use the dishwasher safely in the meantime. If a water leak occurs, an ‘F2’ fault will appear in the display or the machine will beep continuously. The dishwasher should then be switched off at the powerpoint and Fisher & Paykel Appliances should be notified.”

Consumers can register their product on Fisher & Paykel’s dedicated recall website, by emailing specialist.team@fisherpaykel.com or by calling 1300 920 458 between 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.

I have a dish drawer model no DD603. I have had it repaired several times the last time some months ago. It worked for a short time and now not at all. Cannot afford to keep having it repaired as I am elderly and on an aged pension. Please let me know what I should do, I have tried ringing but always engaged.

Have DD603 serial LSM737101 - has been beeping early into operation over recent weeks. Have restarted each time and cycle completed without problem and assumed "Rinse Aid" needed top-up. Still alive so far! What now?

I have found that the company is also offering the upgrade model on good competitive prices for customers who are affected by this recall. Question is in considering that my dishwasher is working OK and approximately 9 years old. Is it worth to take advantage and upgrade it?
Posted by Wasim Ehsan. 21/07/2012 08:37:57 AM
I was one of a few who discovered the problem and reported it . the part to be sent out may avoid the problem occurring but NOTE: it may not offer any safety if your machine has already developed a small leak through the stater sump.if you suspect a leak you MUST do MORE then just fit that part (a rotor assembly)alone, as it will not protect the water in the tub being made "live"

Dihwasher (Drawer type)Purchased 12/06/03 from Heathcotes in Hamilton Model DD603SS S/N starts with M--73-8. The main problem we have had with it is the top draw control board and display with moisture. At present the display has no background light (this is the 2nd one we have had replaced)and the control board I replaced with a 2nd hand one from a discarded dishdraw bottom draw control board.

We have had a problem in the past and had it serviced, just a couple of months ago. How timely my parents found this as normally I would throw out the newspaper without reading these types of notices. Our machine has just started to play up again, with the same fault as before. I certainly will be filing a recall notice. Cheers.

We have had our dishwasher for almost 8 yrs. Several services calls, we have not had both drawers working at the time for at least 6 of the years....very frustrating and expensive. We repair one and the other starts leaking, beeping, even after powered off! I tried to check serial#, but unable to read. Now what?

The top drawer part of the dish washer is making intermittent noises. The instrument panel then goes haywire and all the the lights then start flickering. I have tried pressing both lock and on/pause buttons together as instructed the manual, but it doesnot work. If any knows what to do would appreciate it.

I have the affected model double drawer dishwasher. I have had the error message twice and have had repair folks out both times. I am now concerned that the problem is still there since the upper washer continues to have "intermal" leaks. that is there is a constant backflow of water from my sink/garbage disposal. When I run water from either, the top drawer washer fills up with dirty water being flushed down my sinks drain system. Love the washers, hate the problems

We bought a 2 drawer dishwasher in 2002. It looks great and washes very well, but..... on average, over the past 6 years, we have required repairs to the machine approximately twice a year. Call out costs and parts are expensive, but we have found the service response to be excellent. Recently the dishwasher bottom drawer failed (again), only 2 months after the repair man had replaced components in the top drawer. I called service and registered my disappointment. Fisher & Paykel offered us a single drawer dishwasher as a replacement for $204.00 after discounting the retail price of $550 by the recent call out costs of $346. A quick peep at user reviews on the model offered revealed a few undesirable design flaws. We are still procrastinating on what to do. Maybe use the kids and dump the mechanical dishwasher?

New ones are $1,780 in the shop, i had a good machine and due to their faulty workmanship now i have none and no way of paying another $1,000 blood poor performance by Fisher and Paykel i recon

Also have Model DD603 and have replaced two rotors since new, my fault, something broke and got stuck and burred the rotor. Now has a problem with fresh water seeping back after washing and emptying cycle in the top drawer. Repair man came out and said needs a new valve and incidentally you can contact F & P and be sent two new rotors as its very noisy and they replace them for free. So I shall do that, but latest repair cost me $228.00

bought DD603 SS in 2002. 11 years later and many, many service calls and faults, it is time to retire this dishwasher for good. Now it won't seal the lids (actuators stuck). Water everywhere. Crazy F1 codes and motors whine in high gear with no water in tub. Ghost machine. Will not repair this one again. I guess 11 years is a good run. Time to get a REAL dishwasher with a grinder, full heat and multiple sprayers. This one is not great for a family but ok for a retired couple who use paper plates.
