Bricks and mortar retailers are giving pure-play-online retailers a run for their money in online retailing, with four of Australia’s biggest 'clicks and mortar' retailers rated among the top six online department stores in a recent survey.
The survey, conducted by customer satisfaction ratings agency Canstar Blue, ranked the sites of Myer, Target, Kmart and Big W, as well as two pure-play-online stores, DealsDirect.com.au and oo.com.au.
The survey took responses from over 850 participants who were asked to rate online department stores in terms of value for money, price compared to other online retailers, price compared to bricks and mortar retailers, site navigation, range of products, range of brands and speed of delivery.
In positive news for local businesses, 71 per cent of respondents said they chose to use local websites rather than overseas stores for their online shopping.
However, one of the major sticking points for consumers was the slow delivery times that some sites offered, with “half those surveyed saying they would refuse to ‘repeat-purchase’ from a website after experiencing unreasonable delivery times” according to Canstar Blue.
DealsDirect.com.au was rated as the top online department store, with five-star ratings across all categories, closely followed by Kmart online, which received a five-star score for Range of Brands, with four stars in the remaining categories.
Target Online was ranked next, with four-star ratings in every category except for speed of delivery, where it garnered three stars. Big W Online and oo.com.au followed with a combination of four- and three-star ratings, while Myer was ranked sixth with three stars across each category.
