Miele and Breville in front as appliances and electronics dominate Design Awards

The appliance and consumer electronics industry is once again well-represented in the list of finalists for the Australian International Design Awards. In the Consumer category, leading brands such as Breville, Dyson, Samsung, Nespresso and Gaggenau are finalists, while there is also a nomination for Kleenmaid.

Breville and Miele are the big winners from this announcement, with three finalists each.

At Breville, the local design team’s dedication to innovation has been rewarded with recognition for the BES 900 Dual Boiler coffee machine, the YouBrew coffee system and the Smart Scoop ice cream maker.

Miele’s three finalists are the DA7000 levitating rangehood, the S6730 Velvet Touch vacuum cleaner and the Supertronic laundry system.

Four companies in the electronics industry have received dual recognition, with Dyson, Samsung, Electrolux, Miele and Philips all receiving finalist status for two products.

There is swathe of suppliers with one finalist, including Asko, Bose, CineMate, Fujitsu General, Gaggenau, Kenwood, Nespresso, Nokia, Panasonic, Sunbeam, Tefal and Whirlpool.

Kleenmaid, which has experienced a turbulent modern history of administration and controversy, is a finalist for its Elevator Oven.

The 2012 Australian International Design Awards will be presented at a gala ceremony in Sydney on Friday 20 July 2012.
