Appliance Retailer magazine and Current.com.au are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Good Design Australia and the Australian International Design Awards.

Good Design Australia (GDA) annually organises and presents the Australian International Design Awards (AIDAs), the nation’s most prestigious award for product and service design. First presented in 1958, the AIDAs recognise the best in local and overseas design for products and services either designed in Australia or marketed in Australia.

“The appliance and electronics industries have a long relationship with the AIDAs, with the judges regularly awarding brands such as Breville, Dyson and Philips for their investment in top quality design,” said Appliance Retailer magazine and Current.com.au editor Patrick Avenell.

“I was especially happy for Nespresso and Electrolux Floor Care, who won major awards at last year’s event.”

The purpose of this partnership is to promote the role played by Good Design Australia and the AIDAs in creating a value differentiator between different products on the market.

“Every supplier and retailer I speak to says price erosion is having a devastating impact on margins and profits,” Avenell said. “The suppliers that invest heavily in design and are subsequently rewarded with a Design Award are giving retailers an extra incentive to trade consumers up to great products that offer better value for money, improved functionality and efficiency and ultimately lead to increased brand loyalty and customer satisfaction.”

Brandon Gien, the managing director of Good Design Australia and chair of the Design Awards, expressed happiness at this partnership.

“Appliance Retailer is one of the most respected trade magazines in the industry and we are delighted to be working with them to further promote excellence in design through the Design Awards,” he said.

“Manufacturers in the appliance and electronics sectors know only too well the critical role good design plays in creating better, safer, more efficient and attractive products.”

The 2012 Australian International Design Awards will be presented in Sydney on Friday 20 July 2012. Entries close on Friday 30 March 2012. GDA & AIDA on Twitter.
