JB Hi-Fi is currently accepting expressions of interest for its new JB NOW music streaming service, which will be launching soon. JB has further confirmed that the mobile applications for this service will be released in early 2012.

Current.com.au can further reveal that the price for this service will start at $6.67 per month, considerable less than the $9.99 base price of Samsung’s MusicHub.

JB NOW will be available as a cross-platform music streaming service, meaning it can be used on PCs, Macs, iOS tablets and smartphones, and Android tablets and smartphones. This is a big advantage compared to MusicHub and Sony’s MusicUnlimited, which will only work on specific devices.

JB NOW is promising “millions of tracks” from “over 100,000 artists”. In addition to music streaming, the service will also provide background information on artists, albums and songs, which can be read on a PC or a mobile device.

Sharing is also a big part of the service, with users able to create playlists and virtual mixtapes to share with other users. Subscribers will also have the option to follow other users, meaning they will receive recommendations on what music other people are listening to.

That means if one comes across someone who shares their taste, they will be able to influence each other to discover new artists and tracks.

“For over 35 years, JB Hi-Fi have been the original rock and roll masters, so roll over everyone — now we rock even harder,” claims the marketing spiel.
