Motorola is remaining tightlipped about when and if the new Razr, due to be launched in Australia on Thursday 27 October exclusively with Optus, will receive an update to Google’s new Android 4.0 operating system, known as Ice Cream Sandwich.

Current.com.au put the question to Motorola yesterday, receiving this response from a spokesperson:

“In regards to an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, the decision to upgrade each Android-based device is made on a case-by-case basis after careful consideration of business and technical factors. As a matter of policy, Motorola don’t provide public upgrade schedules.”

UPDATE: This statement is contradicted, however, by Motorola's European based senior vice president Alain Mutricy, who was quoted overnight by Pocket-Lint saying the new Razr would receive an over the air Ice Cream Sandwich update in early 2012. We have asked Motorola's Australian office for a clarification on this.

SECOND UPDATE: A Motorola spokesperson has contacted Current.com.au with a response to this. In a breathtaking piece of hypocrisy, the spokesperson said, "Thanks for flagging this, though as a matter of policy Motorola unfortunately don’t provide public upgrade schedules".

But, quite clearly, Motorola does provide upgrade schedules.
