SYDNEY, NSW: Telstra announced its pricing plans for the iPhone 4S this morning, making it the third of the major carriers to do so, following announcements from Optus and Vodafone over the weekend. Virgin Mobile is yet to confirm pricing details.

“We’re delighted to bring the highly anticipated iPhone 4S to our customers on Australia’s largest and fastest national mobile network," said Telstra Mobile executive director, Warwick Bray. “We know customers will love the speed and coverage available on the Telstra Mobile Network as they enjoy all the new features of iPhone 4S.”

The new smartphone, which was unveiled by Apple last week, is will start shipping to consumers on 14 October, with stock also available in stores.

The iPhone 4S 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models will be available on Telstra’s $59, $79, $99 and $129 Freedom Connect Plans, with some models and plans requiring an additional monthly handset repayment.

Optus is offering the phone on its $49, $59 and $79 Optus Cap plans, as well as the $99 Timeless Extreme Plan, while Vodafone has said it will offer the phone on “Vodafone Infinite plans and Vodafone Caps, and for our prepaid customers, our new Vodafone $30 Cap recharge”.

Telstra’s pricing announcement follows yesterday’s news from Apple that the company had exceeded 1 million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S in one day – outstripping the previous record of 600,000 (held by the iPhone 4).

“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” said Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, Philip Schiller. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”

Apple will be selling the device in all 13 of its retail outlets from 8AM Friday 14 October. The phone will be available for RRP $799 for the 16GB model, RRP $899 for the 32GB model and RRP $999 for the 64GB model.
