SYDNEY, NSW: Wesfarmers has today announced the appointment of a new managing director for the Australian chain of Target stores. Dene Rogers will take up the position on 2 November 2011, following last month’s announcement that Launa Inman would be leaving after almost 7 years in the role.

Originally born in Australia, Rogers joins Wesfarmers from department store giant Sears Canada, where he has held the position of CEO since 2006. Prior to his tenure at Sears, Rogers was the executive vice president of the American division of Kmart, where he oversaw the operations of approximately 1,500 stores.

“I am excited to be returning to Australia and to be joining Target, an icon of retailing with significant potential, and Wesfarmers, one of Australia’s premier companies,” said Rogers. “I am looking forward to working with the Target team, building upon Launa’s accomplishments and taking Target to new levels of customer value and satisfaction.”

Also pleased with the appointment was Wesfarmers managing director Richard Goyder.

“We are extremely pleased to have attracted a person of Dene’s calibre,” said Goyder. “He has a track record of driving improved performance through innovation, has broad international experience and also knows the Australian market.”

Target joined the Wesfarmers stable in 2007 following an acquisition by the Coles group. In his new role as managing director, Dene Rogers will be presiding over more than 24,000 team members and 290 stores.
