SYDNEY, NSW: Canon has released a slew of new products globally, with two new EOS DSLR models and a lens milestone the standout announcements.

Launched simultaneously around the world last night, this release also includes new Pixma printers and the advancement of Canon’s L-Series professional lenses.

The key announcements are:

- The new Canon EOS 600D, which is positioned as a “top-of-the-line entry level” DSLR camera. This model will sit between the EOS 550D and the 60D. Features include creative art filters, 3-inch LCD screen, Full HD video capture, 18-megapixel sensor and a DiG!C 4 image processor.

- Designed as a stepping stone between compact and high-quality DSLR, the new EOS 1100D is Canon’s new entry level interchangeable lens system camera. It has a 12.2-megapixel image sensor, HD movie capture, 2.7-inch TFT screen and a DiG!C 4 image processor. This model is available in black, red and gray.

- In the EF Lens series, Canon has two new high performance professional lenses: the EF500mm f/4L IS II USM and the EF600mm f/4L IS II USM.

- Still on lenses, Canon reports that it has now manufactured 60 million EF lenses. Local GM of consumer product marketing, Darren Ryan, said that whilst it took almost 9 years to make the first 10 million, the last 10 million were produced in just 13 months.

- And in printing, Canon has five new Pixma printers, the flagship of which is the iX6550. This model features a small footprint, online design templates, Wi-Fi connectivity, 11.3 images/minute black printing and 8.8 images/minute colour printing. This model is RRP $399.

Canon's initiative to introduce new products on regular basis is praiseworthy. However, prosumer wildlife/sports shooters are living with the primitive EF 300mm f/4L IS USM, EF 400mm f/5.6L USM and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM all of which are more than 12 years old. Any news on updates? Thanks in advance.
