SYDNEY, NSW: The Police is currently working with retailers to combat pre-Christmas organised crime gangs targeting shoppers, especially in malls. This comes after the arrest of a man on 2 December 2010 on suspicion of involvement in a syndicate that is alleged to have stolen $30,00 worth of boxed goods.

“Police are urging members of the community to be mindful of their surroundings when out shopping,” said NSW Police Detective Superintendent Greig Newbury.

“The community should be aware of where their personal belongings are at all times and should avoid leaving valuables unattended.

“Detectives are also encouraging the public to contact police if they see any suspicious behaviour in or around retail outlets.”
