SYDNEY, NSW & MELBOURNE, VIC: Apple’s Australian office is currently in discussions with at least one of its ‘Tier 2’ resellers, with the organisation looking to unilaterally terminate its agreements to sell at least one of its core products.

Current.com.au can today confirm that Australia Post has commenced discussions with Apple over this decision. Furthermore, Current.com.au understands that at least one other major consumer electronics retailer has been told they will not be able to source, stock or sell Apple iPods after 8 October 2010.

This information was leaked to Current.com.au this afternoon, with our source telling us that they “immediately responded to Apple requesting the rationale for the termination and for them to reconsider this decision”. Our source told us that Apple has not responded to these overtures.

Then, this afternoon, Australia Post confirmed it had commenced discussions with Apple. In a prepared statement to Current.com.au, an internal Australia Post spokesperson said “We are currently in discussion with Apple in relation to the stocking of their products in our stores moving forward”.

Current.com.au’s repeated calls to Apple were not returned.
