SYDNEY, NSW: Domayne Alexandria is tonight hosting media and members of the public to watch the historic 3D broadcast of State of Origin I. The game, which kicks off at 8pm, will be the first free to air broadcast of a sporting event in Australia.
The event tonight is being cohosted by Samsung, which was the first supplier to sell 3D TVs at a retail level in Australia. Since then, LG has also begun selling 3D TVs, though Panasonic and Sony have announced later release dates.
The response to Monday night’s 3D broadcast of the Socceroos’ 2-1 win over the New Zealand All Whites has been mixed. Although the Fox Sports commentators were breathless in their praise for 3D, some media reviews have brought up teething problems with the technology.
Harvey Norman, which operates Domayne, is a long time supporter of rugby league and State of Origin, as is the broadcaster, Channel Nine. It is unknown if Channel Nine has heeded one of the major criticisms of the football broadcast, that the cameras were positioned too low to the ground, for tonight’s match.
Current.com.au will be attending the 3D screening tonight, and will provide coverage of the event for tomorrow’s bulletin.
