SYDNEY, NSW: Premium Italian cooking specialists Smeg has released a freestanding beast of an oven. Designed to suit consumers who need a big oven, but not looking for a built-in, the only thing missing from the new Smeg is pyrolytic cleaning.

The Smeg CE91MXA, which is RRP $6,990, features a 5-zone induction cookers atop an all stainless steel body. The extra width of the oven – 1.5 times the traditional standard – allows for greater flexibility in cooking, which can be completed through one of the nine cooking functions. Heat is retained and moderated in the oven cavity by Smeg’s thermoseal technology.

Because induction works through magnetism, with the cool-to-touch zones ‘talking’ to the pots and pans to provide heat, the surface of the induction plates is safe for inquisitive kids and much easier to clean than alternate systems, which often require hills and divots.

Although there is not pyrolytic cleaning, the 121-litre oven body has an AA antiacid easy-clean enamel coating for manual cleaning. For utensil storage, there is a 41-litre compartment underneath the oven, which can be used to hide away pots, pans and other kitchen tools.

“To ensure a cooler, safer kitchen, the double-glazed, thermo reflective door, together with its forced air door cooling system, ensures the surface temperature never becomes too hot to touch, and notched trays and shelves mean the shelves are always stable and never pullout too far,” said a Smeg spokesperson.
