SYDNEY, NSW: LG has this morning announced a voluntary recall on nine of its products, including six side-by-side refrigerators. In all cases, the products present a risk of “minor electric shock” to the user.
There are six LG refrigerators currently subject to recall: GC-B197WFI, GC-B197STS, GC-B19ACF, GC-L197HFS, GC-L197NFS and GC-P197WFS. In a statement this morning, LG reported that an earthing screw may only be partially insulating, “which could result in customers receiving a minor electric shock from their fridge in rare circumstances”.
These refrigerators have been on sale since May 2009. LG reports that all of these units have been removed from retailers.
In order to both repair the product and maintain a good relationship with its customers, LG has organised a conclusive corrective program for this fault.
It is offering to consumers the following remedy:
- Repair of the side-by-side fridge.
- $200 reimbursement for the potential loss of refrigerated food (with an additional $50 per day after an initial 48 hours until the repair is completed or 7 days, whichever comes first).
- A 50 per cent discount on the purchase of the next LG product up to a maximum discount of $1,000.

LG also today announced the recall of three portable DVD players.
