SYDNEY, NSW: Sony Computer Entertainment has finally released details of its eagerly anticipated motion controller for PS3, which is due to hit Australia this spring. The PlayStation Move is set to compete directly with the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360’s Project Natal.

According to SCE, the PlayStation Move will offer consumers a gaming experience unlike anything on the market. The motion control experience will combine the PlayStation Move, a PlayStation Move sub-controller and a PlayStation Eye camera.

The way this new motion system works is that the PlayStation Eye camera detects the absolute position of the Move controller in a 3D space.

The Move controller is said to offer unmatched accuracy due to its advanced motion sensors, three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor. A colour changing sphere is also featured on the controller, which can be tracked by the PlayStation Eye.

In addition to allowing users to swing a tennis racket or paint with a brush, the PlayStation Eye camera can also capture a player’s voice or image enabling augmented reality experiences.

According to SCE, the PlayStation Move sub-controller will also be available at launch. This is a one-handed controller developed to further enhance the PlayStation Move experience. A DUALSHOCK or SIXAXIS wireless controller can also be used in place of the sub-controller.

The PlayStation Move has already been well received in the video game industry, with 36 third party developers and publishers currently signed on to support the platform. SCE Worldwide Studios has announced that 20 dedicated games will be released for the platform in fiscal year 2010.

Both the PlayStation Move and PlayStation Move sub-controller will be released in spring 2010. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
