New touchscreen Lumix G2 coming in June

By Grant Shepherd

SYDNEY: Panasonic Australia has confirmed that two new Lumix G Micro System cameras will be available in June. The Lumix G2 will feature touchscreen shooting, a first for an interchangeable lens system camera.

Both the DMC-G2 and DMC-G10 are based on a Micro Four Thirds System standard, but due to a mirrorless design, the camera’s body size is significantly downsized.

Alistair Robbins, group marketing manager Lumix, Panasonic Australia, was confident that both of these products will be well received by consumers.

“The two new Lumix G Series models pick up where our ground breaking G1 left off – delivering SLR image quality with compact ease of use in a very small package,” he said.

“We are expecting an extremely positive reaction from photographers and dealers around Australia when these new models are released mid-year.”

According to Robbins, the DMC-G2 model is the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera with a moveable LCD. This 3-inch LCD touch screen will allow users to take photos, change settings and play back images with a simple touch of a finger.

Both the DMC-G2 and DMC-G10 also feature a new illuminated Intelligent Auto (iA) button to give photographers the ability to quickly switch to iA mode to ensure images are captured in the best way possible.

Robbins said that the DMC-G2 is an ideal camera for people who are familiar with other touchscreen devices on the market. The DMC-G10 is designed to be the perfect model for photographers who want to step up from a digital compact camera.

Pricing and colour availability for both models has not been announced as of yet. Panasonic said that this will be confirmed closer to the release date in June.
