Young architect honoured by Fisher & Paykel

SYDNEY, NSW: Fisher & Paykel recently presented the 2009 AA Unbuilt Award at a ceremony in Sydney. These awards recognise experimentation, speculation and invention through architectural design.

The winning entry was by Michael White, whose project, entitled Landcape Urbanism – Port Moresby, was focused on the housing crisis in the Papua New Guinean capital. White was awarded a cash prize and an Izona CoolDrawer as a reward for his successful entry.

“Fisher & Paykel is immensely proud of its association with Australia’s architectural community and we are delighted to be the inaugural sponsor of Architecture Australia’s prestigious AA Prize for Unbuilt Work,” said Fisher & Paykel brand manager Sophie Wardrop.

“Fisher & Paykel has always supported excellence in design. The philosophy behind our Izona range is the proposition that ‘now all your ideas are possible’, so the synergies between the Award and Izona brand are obvious.”

“Fisher & Paykel’s industrial designers think outside the square to create products that give architects and designers flexibility and creativity with home design.”

According to the judges, White’s submission demonstrated the importance of tangible architectural outcomes, with deference to the cultural relationship between Australian and our nearest national neighbour.
