Faulty Acer notebooks recalled

By Grant Shepherd

SYDNEY: Acer has just issued a voluntary product recall on its Aspire Notebook computers due to frayed cabling that can overheat the device and in turn burn consumers.

The Acer AS3810T Aspire Notebook was sold nationally between May 2009 and September 2009 and was available at retailers like Bing Lee, Harvey Norman, Joyce Mayne, Officeworks, Radio Rentals, Retravision and The Good Guys. For the full list of affected retailers please visit www.recalls.gov.au.

The reason for the recall is that frayed cabling may cause the unit to overheat and may in turn burn consumers. This can happen if the left palm rest is subjected to repeated heavy pressure.

Consumers who think they may have a recalled model are being advised to visit Acer’s website and follow the directions to select the ‘service and support’ link or telephone Acer’s call centre on 1300 365 100.

Once contact has been made consumers will be given instructions for the return to Acer and rectification of the Notebook, at Acer’s cost.

Retailers have also been advised that an unsold stock will be replaced and an Acer account manager will be in contact with you in the next couple of days to make arrangements for this replacement program.
