Samsung the first to mass produce 3D TV panels

By Grant Shepherd

SYDNEY: Samsung Electronics has just announced that it is now the first company to commence mass production of panels for 3D LED and LCD TVs.

3D television was undoubtedly one of the most popular new technologies at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and Samsung is evidently very keen to stamp its authority as a leader in this new 3D frontier.

The company began production of LED and LCD compatible panels for 40-inch, 46-inch and 55-inch Full-HD 3D TVs using ‘3D Active Glasses’ this month and all models include Samsung’s exclusive true 200Hz technology.

Mark Leathan, head of marketing, consumer electronics at Samsung Electronics Australia, commented on the recent announcement.

“Interest from consumers following the success of the theatrical movie release Avatar 3D and the recent announcements at CES, all point towards 3D being the next big technology in Australian living rooms,” he said.

“This announcement highlights that Samsung is already working to deliver on the 3D experience and build upon its number one market status in the TV market here in Australia and around the world.”

In an earlier interview with Current.com.au, Leathan stated that its range of 3D TVs is expected to be launched in Australia from mid-April and its flagship 9000 LED series is expected to come out from mid-July.
