Mark Beard has been appointed national marketing manager for the consumer electronics division at Sharp Australia. Beard last job was at Samsung, where he was the general manager of retail sales before being made redundant during a marketing restructure in July 2009.

In his new role, Beard will report to sales and marketing director Joe Costantino. This change was necessitated by the retirement of former Sharp marketing manager Laurie Nolan, who retired after a stellar career in the industry late last year.

"Mark Beard's industry experience will add a further dimension to our product and marketing team and we look forward to his involvement in Sharp's continued growth in the Australian market,” said Costantino.

Beard was also enthusiastic about this new venture.

"What impresses me about Sharp is their deep commitment to their customers, both consumer and retailer,” said Beard.

“Sharp not only supplies a superior product but also a superior back end. Credit, logistics and service are treated with equal importance to the sales and marketing functions. This commitment to all facets of the business is a refreshing change and was one of the key reasons why I pursued a role with Sharp."

In addition to Samsung, Beard has also formerly worked at Akai and Uniden.
