By Grant Shepherd

SYDNEY: Viewsonic is currently promoting a new range of consumer electronics products in the lead up to Christmas. Some of the standout products include new palm-sized HD media players and the Viewbook notebook range.

The new VPD500 (RRP $299) and VPD400 (RRP $249) MovieBook media players were unveiled at the launch event in Sydney yesterday, the release is in order to meet consumers’ mobile video and audio demands.

The units weigh in at just 196 grams and can easily fit in the palm of a hand. The units have a 5” or 4.3” TFT-LCD display, 720p video output, micro SD card slots and 8GB of built-in memory. The 2500mAh large capacity battery means the MovieBook can play for up to four hours.

The other products unveiled at the event were the new 13.3” ViewBook Pro and the full range of 12.1”, 13.3” and 14” Viewbook notebooks. All notebooks come pre-installed with Windows 7 operating system.

The flagship ViewBook Pro with its 13.3” LED backlit display has a 1280 x 800 resolution, slim chassis forged from magnesium alloy and is light weight at 1.6 kilograms.

Other features include a new Intel Core 2 Duo 7300 dual-core ultra slim and ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processor, multi-drive DVD writer, battery life of up to eight hours and next-generation multi-finger touchpad.

The Viewsonic ViewBook Pro, ViewBook 140, ViewBook 130 and ViewBook 120 will all be available in January 2010. RRPs are yet to be confirmed.
