SYDNEY, NSW: Debuting in the Canon EOS DSLR camera range is the new EOS 7D, which will sit near the top of the range above the 50D and below the 5D. Pitched at enthusiasts, it is in many respects a professional camera.
While it will become available in Australia from October, pricing is not yet available. However, the 50D body only is currently RRP $1,899 and the 5D Mark II body is $4,799, so the 7D RRP is expected to fall within this range.
“The EOS 7D has it all,” said Canon Australia Brand Manager – EOS, Chris Macleod.
“With the introduction of this brand new EOS product line, Canon is responding to consumer demand for an enthusiast-level DSLR that is packed with all the best features.”
Described by Canon as “the best all-rounder in the EOS range”, the 7D features an 18.0 megapixel CMOS sensor, specifically developed by Canon, and Dual DiG!C 4 image processors for fine detail, low noise and brilliant reproduction of colour and tones. The EOS 7D also features FULL HD movie recording, which Canon seems to have made standard for all new DSLRs, as well as Live View shooting through the 3-inch Clear View II LCD screen. Also, a new Live Face Detection AF mode automatically identifies, captures and focuses faces in frame, ensuring portraits will always appear sharp.
The standard ISO range (100-6400) is expandable to a huge 12800, so photographers will be able to capture sharper images in much lower light environments.
It also has a 19-point Auto Focus and other intuitive features such as Auto Lighting Optimiser and Peripheral Illumination correction. The EOS integrated cleaning system prevents and automatically removes tiny dust particles, resulting in cleaner images.
“The perfect all-rounder, the EOS 7D can go anywhere and capture anything, while letting users expand their creative control. It’s the perfect camera for shooting a creative portrait, sports match, night scene, or even recording all three in FULL HD video,” said Macleod.
