Quickflix and Virgin Mobile join forces for new promotion

By Grant Shepherd

SYDNEY: Quickflix, Australia’s leading independent online DVD rental company has announced a joint venture with mobile provider Virgin to encourage more Australians to try out the service.

The exclusive promotion with Virgin will run throughout July 2009 and will allow all new Virgin Mobile post-paid customers to receive a complimentary three month membership to Quickflix, which is valued at $44.85.

The deal is set to further expand awareness of the online retailer, which has seen a dramatic rise in market share recently due to Australian consumers changing viewing habits and the shift towards at home video options.

Ben Hammond, Quickflix director of marketing, was very excited about the new partnership.

“Virgin Mobile is a great brand and we think it is a perfect fit for our co-promotional activities,” Hammond said.

“This promotion will be an opportunity to introduce the concept of online DVD rental to a new segment of Australian customers who are technology savvy, content driven and excited about trying new things.”

On the other side of the deal is Chris Jones, head of acquisition at Virgin Mobile, he was confident that the promotion will help offer more value for its customers.

“Virgin Mobile is all about offering great value to our customers. This partnership with Quickflix will give our new customers an opportunity to try online DVD rental for themselves,” Jones said.

“We know our customers love entertainment and movies in particular so we wanted to partner with a brand that is all about that experience.”

The campaign will be promoted heavily through online channels as well as through point of sale executions in-store at Virgin Mobile retail outlets and through their network of retail partners.
