SYDNEY: Telstra has just announced that Tom Lamming, senior vice president, transformation, will be leaving the company as of 30 June, to return home to the United States.

Lamming was an instrumental part of Telstra’s transformation under CEO Sol Trujillo, where the company rationalised and integrated its IT, operational and business support systems.

Telstra commented that Lamming had an integral role in overseeing the IT transformation in the office of the COO and also assumed the responsibilities of CIO in February 2007. In November 2008, he was appointed senior vice president, transformation after John McInerney was appointed CIO.

Lamming’s role is set to absorbed by the wider leadership team as the IT transformation moves to its next stage.

Sol Trujillo praised Lamming and his role in the company.

“Tom has been there every step of the way,” he said. “He is one of those rare individuals with the foresight to understand what needs to be done and the commitment to turn the vision into reality.”

“I thank Tom for his commitment to the cause and his lasting achievements at Telstra and wish him every success as he embarks on the next stage of his life.”

In return Lamming was very thankful to Trujillo and the opportunity he was given.

“This has been one of the most challenging but rewarding jobs that anyone could ever do,” he said. Telstra’s transformation is the largest, most comprehensive and successful I have ever seen, and we have implemented it at speed.”

“Telstra is now closer to a converged business model, has world-class Next G and Next IP networks and offers rich content and value-added services. The IT transformation will enable the business to offer unrivalled capabilities and customer experience over the coming decade.”
