SYDNEY: Panasonic has shown off its new high-end Lumix DSLR camera for the first time. At a wide-ranging product launch yesterday, Panasonic previewed the Creative HD Hybrid DMC-GH1 to assembled media.

In addition to being a DSLR, this new Lumix model can record in both full HD (1080p) and AVCHD (720p). Features include Intelligent Auto (iA), in which the user lets the camera do all the work; Fulltime live view and continuous autofocus.

Specific to capturing still images, the DMC-GH1 features face recognition, intelligent image stabilisation, AF tracking, intelligent exposure and intelligent scene selector. For video recording, features include optical image stabiliser, face detection, intelligent exposure and intelligent scene selector.

The Micro Four Thirds System interchangeable lens for this model is the Lumix G Vario HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA OIS. This lens has a 10x zoom for silent and continuous auto-focusing and “seamless” aperture adjustment.

“This groundbreaking new product is the flagship of the Lumix G series, delivering outstanding video and stills and giving the user amazing creativity and versatility,” said Panasonic Lumix product manager, Tanya Mudge.

“It joins the Lumix G1 as the latest Micro Four Thirds System camera and incorporates all the hallmarks of this standard, with a downsized body, combining advanced functions with easy operation.”

Integral to the appeal of Panasonic’s imaging range is Viera Link. With this functionality, users can transfer images and videos straight from their Lumix to a compatible TV, DVD or Blu-ray player via the SD card slots. Alternatively, a mini-HDMI cable can be used to output still and motion images recorded on the DMC-GH1 directly to a Viera Link television.

The new Lumix DMC-GH1 will be available in May for RRP $3,299.
