Sony has announced the appointment of three new marketers, all of whom are joining Sony from rival companies within the industry.

Vanessa Hamilton is the new brand and channel marketing manager, and will be responsible for monitoring the alignment of Sony’s marketing with sales. Hamilton was formerly a group marketing manager at Microsoft, a job for which she was responsible for the launch of Windows Vista. Hamilton has also worked at Telecom NZ, Unilever and ACP Publishing.

“Vanessa’s experience and knowledge will strengthen Sony’s ability to bring its products to market with highly successful and innovative marketing campaigns,” said Sony Australia head of strategy and brand development Toby Barbour.

The new digital business manager is Michelle Hall. In this role, Hall will be responsible for setting the direction for Sony’s local online presence. Prior to Sony, Hall has worked in strategic planning with Hutchison 3G, Nestle, Compaq and Google. Still a student, Hall is currently studying for her MBA, having completed a Masters of Education and Work from Macquarie University.

“As a result of her diverse experience, Michelle has a thorough understanding of the digital space and the way in which it can be utilised for sales and marketing initiatives,” said Barbour.

Finally, Shannon Tweedie is the new senior brand manager for the Bravia LCD TV division. Tweedie has over 10 years experience in brand and product marketing, most recently at Canon, where she was a marketing communications manager.

“With her extensive consumer electronics industry knowledge, Shannon will be able to provide valuable insights into product and category management,” said Barbour.

Tweedie will be reporting to Hamilton in her new role, with Hamilton and Hall both reporting to Barbour.
