Hagemeyer Brands Australia, which trades as Major Electrical Appliances, has announced it is conducting a voluntary safety recall of the Dimplex Superheater.

The affected models have the product numbers ROF24TI and ROF24ECC. Hagemeyer has said that this voluntary recall “is being conducted as a precautionary measure”.

According to a letter sent by MEA general manager, Shane McNulty, to retailers, “the Dimplex Superheater has had reports of a component fault, which can cause overheating near the heater’s control panel and, in some cases, risk of fire”.

This letter continues to say that the affected Dimplex Superheaters have a 3-digit batch number between 000 and 377. The batch number can be found on the rating label found at opposite end to the control panel, between the two large wheels. Dimplex Superheaters with other batch numbers are not affected.

“No other Dimplex product is affected by this fault. We bring this to your attention now in preparation for a public announcement and to provide you with the information necessary to help customers,” writes McNulty.

Retailers of these two recalled models are advised to isolate all current stock and contact their sales representatives to arrange the return of the products. An external call centre has been employed to handle enquiries about this recall. The phone number for this hotline is 1800 224 026, with operations open everyday between 8am and 8pm.

Additionally, a page has been created on the Hagemeyer website with further details. Should consumers enquire at retail outlets about this recall, McNulty is urging staff to direct their enquiries through either the website or the call centre.

Newspaper notification of this recall is set to be placed in tomorrow’s newspapers.
