POPULAR KITCHEN TREND TAKEN TO NEW WIDTH!

A strong trend in kitchen renovation, both here and throughout Europe, is towards the upright cooker whereby the cooktop and oven is combined in one appliance, preferably in an all satin stainless steel, semi commercial design.

Always one to drive a trend – and not merely follow – is Italian kitchen appliance specialist Smeg and, true to form, it has just launched a 150cm wide CSA150X freestanding cooker.

Truly an appliance for the savvy home cook, this double oven, seven burner showpiece exudes style and outstanding performance.

The main 90cm oven has a 78 litre (nett) capacity and nine cooking functions – including fan-forced, fan grill, rotisserie, bakers’ function and static bake.

The smaller, 60cm oven, has eight cooking functions, a special pizza cooking mode and a 56 litre (nett) capacity.

Both ovens can be pre-programmed to start and stop cooking using the stylish analogue LED electronic clock programmer.  They also have triple-glazed removable oven doors (for easy cleaning), stay clean oven liners and a cooling fan to ensure the exterior surface remains cool to the touch.

The seven burner gas hob, complete with two ultra-rapid wok burners and one fish burner, has a centrally placed electric griddle with Teflon coated  plates.  There are also cast iron trivets, automatic electronic ignition and automatic flame failure device.

The entire design and performance of the CSA150X remains faithful to Smeg’s design signature that is classic, understated styling in satin stainless steel.

And the perfect accompaniment for the 1500mm wide CSA150X?  The 1500mm wide K7088D.  This beautiful Smeg double rangehood is quite literally two separate rangehoods incorporated in one beautiful, clean-lined satin stainless steel platform suspended from two satin stainless steel exhaust shafts.

Each rangehood system, which can be used separately or simultaneously, removes 1073 cubic metres of air an hour (gross), has four speeds, a five-minute delay-stop control, a 30 hour grease filter cleaning prompt and a 120 hour charcoal filter replacement prompt.

The K7088D also has a total of four halogen lights evenly distributed along the length of the platform, which not only give excellent illumination but also ensure shadow-free cooking.  And when working simultaneously, the twin motors remove in excess of 2000 cubic metres of air an hour (gross) – extremely quietly!

The K7088D wall-mounted rangehood retails for $4190 for the 1500mm wide model and $5990 for the 1800mm version.

The CSA150X 150cm upright retails for about $14990.   Both appliances carry a two year in-home warranty on parts and labour.
