SYDNEY: ASUS has announced it will expand the distribution of its popular Eee PC to all major electrical retail groups, including Betta Electrical, The Good Guys and Harvey Norman.

The move, effective today, means the compact laptop PC will now be sold in Betta Electrical, David Jones, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Retravision and WOW Sight & Sound. It takes the computer’s distribution network from 60 Myer stores to hundreds Australia-wide.

ASUS Australia managing director Ted Chen said the move was designed to meet huge consumer demand.

“Due to the tremendous enthusiasm the Eee PC has generated, ASUS is pleased to be extending distribution to Australia’s major retailers to meet consumer demand,” he said.

The Eee PC went on sale in Myer Sydney City on December 1 last year and sold out by 12.30pm the same day. As at close of business December 3, all Myer capital city stores (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth) had sold out, with limited quantities available in metropolitan stores.

Chen said the Australian arm was trying to secure as much allocation from the factory as possible, but a spokesperson company said they would not disclose exact numbers.
