SYDNEY: Sony Australia has appointed Nikon’s former professional photography national business manager, John Wallace, to manage its Alpha digital SLR camera product range in the newly created role of business development manager.
Wallace joins Sony ahead of an imminent expansion of the Alpha digital SLR camera range to three models, building on the original Alpha A100 first launched a year ago.
“We have some significant launches in the category in the coming months, and John’s experience and expertise in this area will prove invaluable for how we bring these to market, communicate our strengths and work with retailers to expand our customer base,” said Sony Australia group manager for digital imaging, Yasunari Nishioka.
“It’s a challenging new area for Sony – a challenge we’re embracing by combining our heritage in digital imaging and consumer electronics.”
In his previous role at Nikon, Wallace was responsible for the company’s entire high-end and professional product range, developing pre- and after-sales relationships with key customers.
Prior to his time at Nikon, Wallace worked for Konica Minolta, whose camera business Sony recently purchased and used as the foundations for the Alpha range.
“I believe that this is the perfect time for me to join Sony, and support the company’s quest to expand its DSLR business,” said Wallace.
“Working closely with our retail network and customers, I will be focused on demonstrating the extensive offering of Sony’s DSLR systems – including the substantial range of lenses and accessories.
“There is a significant opportunity for our DSLR solution to appeal to enthusiast and professional photographers alike, using the strengths of the Sony brand and the Alpha technologies. Our consumers will be able to grow with the Alpha system as their photographic skills develop.”
